Record Clearance

People are not defined by one bad thing they’ve done. Unfortunately, people can feel saddled by a criminal conviction that occurred many years earlier - often when they were very young. To help these people, I offer services in record clearance. Criminal record clearance (also known as expungement or record sealing) is helpful for several key reasons:

  1. Improved Employment Opportunities: Many employers conduct background checks. A cleared record increases access to jobs, which can reduce recidivism and promote economic stability.

  2. Access to Housing: Landlords may deny housing based on criminal records. Record clearance helps people secure safe and stable living situations.

  3. Educational Access and Licensing: Certain schools, scholarships, or professional licenses (like in healthcare or law) may be off-limits with a record. Expungement can open these doors.

  4. Restoration of Rights: In some cases, record clearance can restore civil rights such as gun ownership.

  5. Reduction of Stigma: A criminal record carries lifelong social stigma. Clearing it can help individuals reintegrate into society and rebuild their reputation.

  6. Legal Protections: In many jurisdictions, once a record is expunged, a person can legally answer "no" when asked if they’ve been convicted of a crime on job or housing applications.

If you have questions about criminal record clearance or would like to discuss available options, contact me to schedule a free 30-minute consultation at my office in Chico.
