Released From Custody
Several weeks ago I successfully defended at jury trial a client accused of serious crimes. So serious that if convicted he would have been sentenced to 20 years to life in the department of corrections. The client had been in custody for nearly 18 months awaiting trial despite efforts at reducing bail and securing release on his own recognizance. Following the jury’s acquittal, the judge ordered the client released from custody and the bailiff told him that was a free man who was no longer in custody. We walked outside of the courtroom and posed for the picture below holding his jail clothes and our trial easel (don’t ask why.)
